I was 12-years old when I began drinking, and by the time I was in high school I was dealing drugs. When I was 17-years old I was shot in the head during a drug deal and almost died. It took another 20 years before my life finally came crashing down. By that time I had nothing left and was living as a ward of the state of New Jersey, in a residential drug treatment facility.
While I was drinking and doing drugs, my wife started going to church and got saved. I remember watching her read her Bible and wanting the same peace I saw growing in her life, but I never thought it was possible for me. After I got sober, I went to live with my brother and his family, and was invited to church by one of his neighbors. That is when I surrendered my life to the Lord, and everything changed.
For the past 20 years I have been building my life on the gospel of Jesus Christ. As I grew in my faith the Lord began using me to minister to those who were ensnared in the bondage of addiction. As I came face-to-face with the same hopelessness that had once entrapped me, I was able to share the testimony of what God had done in my life and give others hope that He could do the same for them. I met Pastor Gerry Brown in 2000, and the Lord grafted me in to the work He was doing through the U-Turn for Christ ministry. In 2003, He opened a door for a U-Turn for Christ men’s home in NJ. Today, I am blessed to be the pastor of U-Turn for Christ NJ. The verse the Lord gave me for this ministry (Isaiah 58:12) is one that I have been privileged to see Him bring to pass in the lives of so many who have found freedom from addiction through Christ through this ministry.
“Those from among you shall build the old waste places; you shall raise up the foundations of many generations; and you shall be called the Repairer of the Breach, The Restorer of Streets to Dwell In” (Isaiah 58:12)
